Outside Adventures
We were outside last Friday, waiting on Daddy to come home and this little guy jumped on Madison's Barbie Bug causing her to run screaming to me "Momma-a-a-a there's a cricket on my Bug!"
After I satisfied myself that we weren't under bug siege I discovered this little guy and promptly moved him to the porch where he settle upon a red Geranium.

I explained to her that he's not a cricket (they are black) but a grasshopper.
That they won't hurt you. He tickled my hand and was quite friendly when I moved him.
He would peer at me as I talked softly to him (can you imagine how BOOMING our regular voice must sound to bugs?).
Then he jumped from Geranium to the Deck.
He stayed there for a long, long time. Every once in awhile i'd go check and talk to him and he'd peer at me - so cute! Madison lost interest and resumed zooming around the yard once more.

I was just glad she didn't run upon a snake.
I don't quite have the courage to give her a nature lesson in one of those and probably never will!

Too cute!!!

My niece once had EVERYONE rushing out of the house while she rode her tricycle on our front sidewalk with a blood-curdling scream. We rushed out there and she was frozen on her trike...and a snail was s-l-o-w-l-y making his way across in front of her....she was terrified.

Kids are hilarious, aren't they? Never a dull minute! :)

Stacy PQ- OMG that is freaking hilarious! Yes they are something else!!!!!

Kudos to you for making it a nature lesson! My sister and I weren't so good with my niece when she was smaller...

She saw a bug getting smashed and thought everything small should be smashed. My sister caught her chasing a lizard around the living room with a heavy shoe in her hand.

The lizard got away.

Nature lesson for the day: if it's not cute and furry, squish it.

Grasshoppers are tolerablly cute outside, but inside they would freak me out. I'm not much for creepy crawly things. A caterpillar is okay, but anything spidery looking - ugh.

The only lesson to give a snake is to run and hope it slithers away by itself ! And that it isn't poisionous...

Morning, Patti: Maddie's first Grasshopper! She's so CUTE! :D)

We need pics of Maddie cruising around in the bug.

Nature lessons...great picture too!

I remember those days, and I loved the "learning opportunities" involved. But I'm with you on the snakes thing .... I'm a pretty brave woman, but I don't do snakes! Shudder.

"can you imagine how BOOMING our regular voice must sound to bugs?"...only you would think of something like that!!!

Oh yeah if she ever want to see a real cricket just come to our basement...heck come to any basement in Long Island, NY!! The constant damp is their haven in the summer time....they drive me crazy...and if it wasn't for the fact that i know they eat other bugs...I don't know what I'd do!!! LOL

GOD*I*HATE*SNAKES!!!!!

I grew up in FLA and captured all kinds of creepy crawly things. The only rule was they had to stay outside.

Heck, if one of those jumped NEAR
me I'd be in another state! I hate
bugs that jump they creep me out.

I've run into several snakes on
my adventures to the stock pond for
a swim back when I was a kid.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!!!

Chickie- Thank goodness the lizard got away! I can't even swat a mosquito! LOL

Grant- No,No, No. We don't kill little creatures! Alot of them are our friends and eat other pests!

Loving Annie- I totally agree on the snake thing. I guess you wouldn't approve of our house spiders then eh? We have an agreement I don't bother them, they stay away from me!

Michael- Thank you! I really want to teach her not to fear critters!

Bella- You didn't get enough of that last August at the Beach? LOL

Michelle- Thank you, i'm sure your little boy finds even more interesting critters! They usually do!

Lynilu- I love it too and no, I am terrified of snakes!

BEM- I guess I try to see things from all angles eh? She's seen crickets and they are okay - from a distance! ;)

Daisy- Me too and Thankfully I think our cats have kept them away. I haven't saw a one since we've lived here!

BTE- NOT a bad rule, in my opinion!

Laurie- C'mon cute little grasshoppers? Now Snakes - UGH!

I thought these were crickets too. Wasn't Jiminy Cricket green? Oh great, another thing I have to go Google :)

MJ

My dad brought a snake in the house to show my mom..she ran out of the house screaming. What a lesson in nature.

Sandra- No it's a grasshopper I think!!! But I DO think Jiminy was green. Ah geez now you'll have me up all night thinking about it!

MJ- Bwaaa waa haaa but a darn funny one! My Dad is probably more afraid of snakes than my Mom so no worries of THAT happening!

he grasshoppers around here take off like a bat out of hell when you get near them.
I thinkthey're Quebec grasshoppers and want to separate.

Snakes are not bad.
They are given a bad rap from all the movies.
I bet you only a dozen or so of the hundreds of species are deadly and only a few live in North America.
They taste like chicken to LOL

Walker- I am scared of snakes but I don't bother them. I have no interest in their taste either. Blech! ;)

Do you remember making grasshoppers spit tobacco juice? At least that's what we called it. LOL
